How it all began.

The year is 1942 - The Bongo Board.

World War 2 pilot Stanley Washburn first observes native children of the African Gold Coast balancing on a plank of wood laid atop a sawed-off tree round. He immediately recognized the benefits associated with this fun and entertaining activity. However, upon giving it a try, Stanley finds himself flat on his back losing "face" among the laughter of the amused children.

In 1952, Stanley’s 11 year old daughter, Nina, asks for a Christmas gift that no one else in her neighborhood has ever had. Recalling his run-in with the balance device of the African coast, Stanley proceeded to his wood shop to create a prototype for the first commercially produced balance board. After naming it "The Bongo Board", Stanley began producing his boards and selling them nationally. By 1970 Stanley and his Bongo Board creation had taken the ski industry by storm, their success lasted until 1980, when Stanley’s business partner passed away causing Stanley to dissolve the Bongo Board Corporation and focus attention on his passion for flying.

The year is 1990 - The Vew-Do Board.

Stratton Mt. Vermont Snowboard instructor Brew “Vew” Moscarello is amazed by his snowboard students lack of balancing skills. He sets out to speed the snowboard “learning curve” by having his students identify, and improve their balance skills by riding an old Bongo Balance Board. Recognizing the limitations of this “dinosaur”, Brew modifies this relic to simulate the motions and tricks associated with snowboarding.

In 1992 while working out of an abandoned chicken shed in Arlington, Vermont. Brew registers and incorporates Balance Designs Inc. He patents the world’s first multi- directional balance board, and trademarks the Vew-Do brand, in honor of his high school nickname “Vew”. Brew then begins promoting the virgin sport of Performance Balance Board Riding.

Today the Vew-Do line consists of uniquely designed Vew-Do Branded Balance Boards, each developed to meet the balance requirements of individuals and athletes alike. These boards are used by the highly skilled and performance driven professional athletes of the NFL, NHL, Premier Leauge Football and County Cricket. While its obvious that there are numerous benefits achieved while riding any Vew-Do Balance Board, perhaps its greatest appeal is that they provide so much fun.
